Sustainability Vision 2030
Our Sustainability Vision 2030:
Maastricht University will be a sustainable university by 2030
Setting the agenda: Our Sustainability Vision 2030
In February 2012 the Green Office initiated a participatory process, involving students and staff-members, which led to the development of Maastricht University’s Sustainability Vision 2030. More than 200 people from all faculties and various departments contributed their personal views on sustainability at Maastricht University and entered a competition for the best ideas to make Maastricht University sustainable. All contributions were used to draft the Vision document which was finalized by the Green Office in cooperation with members of the University Council and the Executive Board. The Vision defines the shared goals and values that the student community, our staff members as well as the university’s Executive Board, strive towards and aim to realize by 2030.
Our goals
- “Educating green change agents through a holistic approach to sustainability Education and Research”
- “Making a positive environmental impact”
- “Living a culture of sustainability and participatory policy-making”

Achieving the goals: Our Sustainability Roadmap
The Sustainability Vision is complemented by a Sustainability Roadmap which outlines milestones and projects that are required for achieving the goals defined in the Vision.
In February 2013 the Green Office will host an event which allows students and staff-members to provide their knowledge and advice for preparing the final draft of the Roadmap. The event will be open for all members of the Maastricht University Community and representatives of the Municipality. If you are interested to join the event please register for our Newsletter. You will be invited to the event in January 2013 and will receive further information on the progress.
The Roadmap will be published in April 2013 during a press conference with representatives from Maastricht University and the Municipality of Maastricht.
